The Finance Department is responsible for keeping accounts of the County according to generally accepted principles of governmental accounting.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- distributing all funds
- recording all revenues
- maintaining records of bonded debt. Other obligations of the County include but are not limited to:
- preparing statements of financial condition
- investment of all idle funds
- assisting the budget officer with the budgeting process
- other duties assigned by the County Manager or the Board of Commissioners
All revenues and expenditures for the entire County Government and the financial system of the Finance department.
The Edgecombe County Finance Department was awarded the Certification for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2008 Comprehensive Statements of Edgecombe County.
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was established by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) to encourage all government units to prepare easily readable and understandable Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) covering all funds and financial transactions of the government activities. According to the GFOA news release, "The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the highest standards including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" which clearly communicate its financial story and motivates potential users and user groups to read the CAFR. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents accomplishment for government and its management."
The Edgecombe County Finance Department has been recognized numerous times for this achievement since 1995.
