Kids in Parks is Coming to Edgecombe!

Tarboro, NC - October 11, 2018:  Kids in Parks, Edgecombe County and the Town of Tarboro announce their plans to open a TRACK Trail at Indian Lake in Tarboro. The Kids in Parks program provides a network of family-friendly outdoor adventures called Track Trails. Each one features self-guided brochures and signs that turn a park visit into a fun and exciting outdoor experience. And, the fun doesn’t stop on the trail. Kids that complete TRACK Trail adventures can register their hikes through the program’s website and earn a series of prizes designed to make their next outdoor adventure more fun and keep them engaged in the program.

Tarboro Town Manager Troy Lewis said, "The Town of Tarboro is proud of its many recreation facilities and is always seeking ways to encourage citizens to become healthier.  We are ecstatic that Tarboro was chosen for the Kids in the Park program.  This program will enhance our existing trails and encourage children to get out and enjoy being active."

Town and County officials and many others will celebrate the first TRACK Trail in Edgecombe County and the 100th trail location in North Carolina.

Kids in Parks started with a vision to improve the health of children and the health of our parks by making existing trails more attractive and fun for novice users. Childhood obesity rates continue to rise, and kids are spending more time in front of screens than outside exercising. Through a grant supported by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, Kids in Parks has partnered with the County and Town to create the trail materials for Indian Lake Park.

“We are very excited about our partnership with Kids in Parks and the Town of Tarboro. This will add a great feature to an already beautiful trail at Indian Lake”, says Eric Evans, Edgecombe County Manager.

“When we first started the Kids in Parks program on the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2009, we had no way of knowing how big the program would become,” said Jason Urroz, Director of Kids in Parks. “We’re excited to be working with the good people in the Town of Tarboro and Edgecombe County on our 100th TRACK Trail in the state.”

The grand opening will be held on November 1, 2018 at Indian Lake Sports Complex, located at 3300 Western Blvd, Tarboro, NC. There will be a ribbon cutting and a guided hike at 11:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
