EDGECOMBE COUNTY WATER & SEWER CUSTOMERS
FREE CHLORINE BURNOUT
Beginning April 1, 2019 through April 30, 2019, Edgecombe County Water & Sewer will perform its annual “Free Chlorine” Burnout of our water system.
Edgecombe County purchases water from the Town of Tarboro and City of Rocky Mount. Their water is treated with Chloramines, which is a mixture of Chlorine and Ammonia. Once it enters the system, it is then retreated throughout with Chloramines.
State regulations require any system that disinfects their water with Chloramines to perform a Free Chlorine disinfection process yearly for a three week period to ensure proper disinfection has taken place throughout the system.
The water provided will still be safe to drink. However, some customers may notice a higher than normal “Chlorine” smell and/or taste in their drinking water.
We ask that you be mindful of the change in disinfection over the next month.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Edgecombe County Water & Sewer Department at (252) 823-3042.
