Public Hearing Notice - Firearms Ordinance


NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
proposed amendments to
THE EDGECOMBE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES REGARDING FIREARMS

Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 7:00 PM in the Carmon Auditorium of the County Administration Building located at 201 St. Andrew Street, Tarboro, North Carolina. The purpose of this public hearing is to consider and act on the proposed amendment to Chapter 18, “Offenses and Miscellaneous Provisions” by adding Section 18-2 “Discharge of Firearms” of the Edgecombe County Code of Ordinances.

The proposed amendment is intended to regulate the discharge of firearms in order to protect the safety of citizens. Click here for a copy of the proposed amendment.   Interested parties may also request a copy of the proposed changes by calling (252) 641-7834.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the February 1, 2021 Commissioners meeting will be closed to the public.   The Board of Commissioners will allow up to ten (10) people to make public comments in person. To do so, you must sign up in advance by calling Frangie Mungo, Clerk to the Board, at (252) 641-7834 no later than Monday, February 1st at 5 PM. 

The public is also encouraged to submit public comments on this matter via email to publiccomments@edgecombeco.com by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021.  Public comments on this matter may also be submitted by mail addressed to Eric Evans, County Manager, P.O. Box 10, Tarboro, NC 27886.  All public comments submitted by 5:00 p.m.on February 1, 2021, will be read at the February 1, 2021 Board of Commissioners Meeting. 

The public is also encouraged to listen to the meeting by calling 1-929-205-6099 and entering 816-0330-1972 as the meeting ID and 257780 as the passcode.

All parties interested are invited and urged to make their views known. Anyone with a physical limitation or language barrier that will need special accommodations at the public hearing should call (252) 641-7834 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
