Edgecombe County Emergency Services has implemented a Special Needs Registry to be able to better aid individuals who live or work in the area. Edgecombe County Special Needs Registry (ECSNR) will provide emergency services personnel with information about individuals who may require special attention during times of an emergency.
“We would like to be able to contact individuals with special needs before conditions get bad to offer assistance. This could be during extended power outages, extreme cold, heat, flooding, storms or any other emergency” said Daniel Webb, Emergency Services Coordinator with Edgecombe County Emergency Services.
There are approximately 3,000 residents with special needs in Edgecombe County. Residents with disabilities can sign up at any time and the disability can include visual, hearing, mobility impairments, dementia or developmental disabilities. Information gathered for this registry will allow first responders to maximize the effectiveness and quality of care provided. Having disability-specific information prior to arriving at the scene of an emergency could mean the difference between life and death.
