Now Taking Urgent Repair Applications

EDGECOMBE COUNTY ANNOUNCES

FUNDS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE URGENT REPAIR PROGRAM

Edgecombe County received $75,000 from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (NCHFA) under the 2017 cycle of the Urgent Repair Program (URP). This program was sponsored with funds provided by the N.C. Housing Trust Fund. The goal of URP is to provide funds to assist very-low and low-income families with special needs in addressing conditions that pose imminent threats to their life and/or safety or to provide accessibility modifications and other repairs necessary to prevent displacement. It allows us to spend $8,000 in hard and soft costs per unit.  The program is intended to primarily serve those applicants whose needs cannot be met through other state or federal programs. Funding is limited and we expect to only be able to serve approximately ten (10) people.  Applications will be accepted beginning October 9 thru October 27, 2017.

To Qualify:

1. Must live in Edgecombe County, with the exclusion of the city limits of Rocky Mount.
2. Must have a gross household income within the limits below.
3. Must have at least one special need:

• Elderly household (≥ 62 years of age)
• Handicapped, disabled or have Veteran in the household
• Single parent with a dependent living in the household
• Large household  (5 or more people)
• Household with child  ≤ 6 with an elevated blood lead level

1. The house must be the primary residence of the applicant. The applicant must be the owner or have legal life estate (lifetime rights).
2. There must be an urgent repair need that cannot be met through other state or federally funded housing assistance programs.
